Information about the Role

Job Summary 

The Director of Resources (DoR) has responsibility for a wide range of national and local counter terrorism (CT) functions that spans the National CT Policing (CTP) Network, the MPS and Specialist Operations (SO). They have direct management of a number of national CT functions (known as CTPHQ Pillars) including Strategic Finance, Human Resources, Compliance and Assurance, Commercial, and Local Support Services. They have responsibility for over 200 personnel in CT Policing Headquarters and report to the Director General for CTP and ACSO. They have significant management responsibilities for the delivery of change and the national CTP budget (the CT grant), engaging with senior leaders and stakeholders across a wide range of policing, government and partner intelligence agencies and departments.

The post holder works as Staff Officer to the DoR to ensure efficient and effective leadership of the Directorate and will be a key organiser in the development and co-ordination of cross-cutting functions and activities across all pillars. The post holder will coordinate and oversee all functions of the DoR’s private office, activities include co-ordinating project, programme and other activity; performing secretariat functions for national meeting groups and local forums; maintenance and production of governance documentation and other reports; day to day management of emails and problem solving queries; and liaison with key stakeholders and partners in CTP, wider Policing and other public sector bodies. The post holder will manage one BAND D Personal Assistant (PA) who leads on diary management and other administrative functions, together they form the private office to the DoR.             

Key Tasks

The post holder will be required to do the following:

  • Act as a key conduit for the DoR’s day to day enquiries, including email management and responses, with particular focus on working closely with the DoR’s Pillar Leads. The post holder alleviates time consuming activities from the DoR by offering back valuable time on strategic and day to day issues
  • Plan and organise the DoR’s activities in line with priorities and deadlines, alongside the PA, managing a large number of requests and queries simultaneously with the ability to multi-task
  • Understand the business and DoR’s goals and proactively seek ways to increase productivity and steer them towards their goals
  • Arrange and manage internal and external meetings for the DoR alongside the PA, delivering the Secretariat function where appropriate.
  • Manage and prepare papers and briefings for the DoR across a wide range of meetings and forums
  • Represent the DoR at meetings and forums where required and speak with their authority on a range of issues
  • Lead on projects and work streams relating to Resources and/or contribute towards CTPHQ wide initiatives
  • Engage with Pillar Leads and SLT to track project, activity and actions updates on behalf of the DoR
  • Provide support to the DoR’s Pillar Leads in planning and co-ordination activities as required
  • Draft papers for communication to internal audiences and external partners as required across the DoR’s portfolio
  • Maintain general oversight of the DoR’s communications and business when DoR is out of office
  • Lead Event and Away Day planning and activities on behalf of DoR and Pillar Leads where required
  • Lead the co-ordination of official visits
  • Line manage the Personal Assistant, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of a private office function and providing PA support during absences
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably required
