A 20-year-old man from Goole has been charged with a terrorism offence following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East.
Jordan Richardson (31/07/2004) of Oliver Close, Goole, is charged with one offence of engaging in conduct in preparation of an act of terrorism contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
He appeared before Westminster Magistrates Court today (Monday, December 23) and has been remanded in custody. The next hearing will take place at the Central Criminal Court on January 17, 2025.
Richardson was arrested as part of pre-planned intelligence led operation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East, supported by Humberside Police, on December 19, 2024. A seven day Warrant of Further Detention was granted on Friday, December 20.
Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley is Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East. He said: “This case will understandably cause significant concern to local communities, in particular due to the time of year and following the tragic events in Germany at the weekend.
“For Counter Terrorism Policing and its partners, public safety remains our priority at all times and an extensive and thorough investigation has led to the charges brought today.
“We’d like to reassure local people that this individual is believed to have been acting alone and there is currently no specific or increased threat to local communities as a result of this case.
“Despite this, the UK threat level remains at Substantial, and history has shown us we can’t afford to be complacent. Public vigilance is invaluable in supporting the efforts of Counter Terrorism Policing and its partners to protect our communities from harm.
“Every year thousands of reports from the public help police to respond early to potentially suspicious activity. If you see or hear something that doesn’t seem right, trust your instincts and ACT by reporting to police in confidence at gov.uk/ACT. In an emergency, always dial 999.”
