Following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East (CTP NE), a 15 year old boy from Nottingham has today (Friday, September 13) been sentenced for seven terrorism offences.
He has received a 3-Year Community Behaviour Order, and a 3-Year Youth Referral Order which will include a curfew by tag.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty in June 2024 to six offences of dissemination of terrorist publications, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006 and one offence of support for a proscribed organisation, contrary to Section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
The boy was arrested on June 22, 2023 by CTP NE officers, supported by Nottinghamshire Police. Following review of his devices, it was found he had used social media platforms to post and share violent videos relating to Islamic State. He had also pledged allegiance to ISIS in a chat with others on Telegram.
The head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley said:
“It is important that family, friends and organisations are aware of the risks that young people face online, including recognising when someone is being drawn into extremism, and knowing where to turn for help and support.”
“Sharing extremist material and supporting proscribed groups like Islamic State are serious offences that can have far reaching consequences in the real world, as demonstrated in this case.”
